Healing Begins Through the Gut



Our physical existence is being bombarded and damaged by many toxins in the environment. From our corporate-supplied food, body and household products, to our chemtrail air, to our manufactured water supply, many people are unaware that we are living with toxic overload on a daily basis. It is essential for our health, therefore, that we speak up about the dangers of these toxins and do what we can to minimize the effects of them in our lives. When our bodies come into contact with certain toxins from food and water, they destroy neurotransmitters and microbes in our gut. Even if you eat only organic food, drink filtered water, and take vitamins and supplements, you still need to detoxify on a daily basis.

Did you know? Our gut has its own brain! The gut contains more than 100 million neurotransmitters. This is more than the spinal cord contains! Major neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, glutamate, and norepinephrine are found in the gut.[1] The gut also contains an abundance of benzodiazipenes, which are the same psychoactive chemical that is found in synthetic drugs such as Ativan, Valium and Xanax.[1] There are over 100 trillion organisms in the gut, which make up about 3/4 of the body's immune system.[2] When these organisms are destroyed, our gut becomes a toxic wasteland. Leaky gut can lead to more serious illness like fibromyalgia or chronic pain, rheumatoid arthritis, ADHD, tourette's, autism, inflammatory bowel disease, depression and social anxiety, multiple sclerosis, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, Type 1 Diabetes, asthma and allergies, Parkinson's, schizophrenia and other mental health disorders, dermatitis such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, and chronic kidney disease.[2]


This is why it is essential to improve the integrity of our gut lining, encourage a positive bacterial environment, and optimize the function of our GI system. One way to do that is by taking collagen. Collagen is a protein that is naturally found in our bones, intestinal tissue, skin, blood vessels and tendons. It is literally the glue that holds us together.[3] Up until our 20's, our bodies make collagen. However, repeated toxin exposure such as the sun, smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, the air pollution, and genetically modified/fast foods destroy our collagen stores. Meant to help seal and heal the gut lining, collagen has amino acids like glutamine, which decrease inflammation and build the tissue that lines the colon and GI tract. Collagen can be found in many animal sources such as gelatin, bone broth and meats. However, other foods help the body make collagen, such as salmon, berries, citrus, eggs, chia seeds, tomatoes, and pumpkin seeds.[4] This is the collagen I have used for my daughter's homemade goatmilk formula for almost a year! Her gut health has much improved!


We can greatly improve our gut health by taking Cannabidiol, also known as CBD Oil. Our bodies have a complete endocannabinoid system, known as ECS, that protects our gut lining among many other amazing roles in the body. Cannabinoid researchers have discovered that our ECS and gut microbiota work very closely together to bring intestinal balance. Obesity and diabetes along with glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, and heart health are closely affected by gut health. The use of CBD has been proven to contribute to the regulation of motility and inflammation in the GI tract.[5] Cannabinoids can block the development of colitis, and studies raise question of whether colitis develops from the loss of CBD (5). CBD works with the neuro system in our gut to help with symptoms of many illnesses including Multiple Sclerosis and spinal cord injury, neuropathic pain, cancer, atherosclerosis, stroke, myocardial infarction, hypertension, glaucoma, obesity/metabolic syndrome and osteoporosis.[6] Everyone needs to find a good CBD Oil! Another important thing to remember to help heal the gut is to avoid the use of Fluoride. Fluoride is a known neurotoxin and damages the lining of the gut. It can cause neuroinflammation, abdominal pain, pineal gland calcification, thyroid dysfunction, kidney failure and heart disease, collagen breakdown and more.[7] This is the same fluoride found in many people's water supply and commercial toothpaste. Investing in home water filters that specifically filter out fluoride and learning how to make non-fluoride toothpaste are a great start to avoiding this poison.

Here's a Homemade Toothpaste Recipe that I created for my family:

1/2 cup food grade diatomaceous earth (DE is calcium-based, builds enamel and polishes teeth)

1/2-1 cup organic coconut oil (more or less for consistency to your liking)

optional- pinch of baking soda

optional- 1 teaspoon fine Himalayan pink salt

optional- organic essential oils for flavor, some ideas are cinnamon, clove, peppermint, spearmint, orange

And last but not least, it is highly recommended to find a whole food source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps the gut absorb iron. While iron can be beneficial, too much of it circulating in the blood from an unhealthy gut can lead to kidney injury and death. We often get too much iron from our diet and unhealthy gut lining. Vitamin C also has a role in collagen production and immune system function. Studies have shown Vitamin C can reverse pneumonia and skin damage from the sun!

These are just a few of the things I would recommend to immediately begin repairing the gut! Other ideas for foods to help repair the gut would be to implement a raw probiotic such as kefir, yogurt, and/or kombucha. A happy gut is a happy brain and a happy body!! Happy Healing!
